More about saying 'this' and 'that'

    • Ce... means 'this' or 'that', and is used in front of masculine words
      ce musée
      ce livre
      this museum, that museum
      this book, that book

    • If the masculine word starts with a vowel or the letter -h, cet is used instead. This -t is always pronounced

      cet enfant
      cet hôtel
    • In front of feminine words, you use cette
      cette carte
      cette place
      this card, that card
      this square, that square

    • To say 'these' and 'those', the word used is ces

      ces musées
      ces enfants
      ces hôtels
      ces cartes
    • You can't use ce, cette or ces on their own, only with a following noun
